Breathing is essential. Rarely do we stop to feel our breathing and explore its functioning. However, the quality of our breathing directly affects our vitality, well-being and health. Likewise, it reflects how we feel and is directly connected to all our actions, thoughts and emotions. We breathe differently when we run than when we sing or whisper. Our breath is not the same when we are scared as when we are happy.
What ideas do we have associated with breathing? Is there a "right" or "wrong" way of breathing? Improving breathing influences other central aspects of human functioning such as balance, flexibility and coordination, thus improving our well-being and health.
In this workshop you will practice Awareness Through Movement lessons that combine movement, breathing and imagination allowing you to:
- Explore relevant aspects of healthy breathing;
- Become aware of habitual patterns that interfere with the breathing and learn more efficient ones;
- Explore the movement of the ribs in breathing and other actions;
- Reduce effort and experience freer, easier, and lighter breathing.
This workshop is aimed at anyone interested in learning through movement; to artists and voice professionals who wish to delve into this field; to anyone who wants to overcome limitations caused by stress, misuse, accident or illness.
No previous experience with the Feldenkrais Method is necessary.
